CELEBRATION OF 10 ANNIVERSARY OF ASSAM ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA, CANADA.

Reported By: ARUP GOSWAMI.
We all the Assamese people of Calgary are very proud to celebrate a decade of success of Assam Association of Alberta in Calgary Canada. With the initiative, support, inspiration and dedicated work of a few Assamese in Calgary and Edmonton formed the Association in June, 2010 and we became a registered organization of Alberta from July 07, 2010. It’s really amazing to see an Association on the other side of the world with only a few families (about 25 families) in Alberta. This is not only an Association but a second home to us, where we could share our fillings with people from the same heritage, through which we could nurture our cultural heritage, revive our lost musical tunes, observe our festivals and keep up with the taste of food from that part of the world. Assam Association of Alberta has showcased the socio-cultural heritage of Assam among the Canadians in Alberta in various celebrations for the decade.

Apart from hosting our annual events like Bihu, Picnic, Family fun night, we started a school for learning Assamese and performing arts in 2011 to educate the children and youths, the future generations of Assamese Canadian of the society with their ethnic background and socio cultural heritage by teaching Language and performing Arts in a classroom pattern.

To celebrate this auspicious occasion, a group of Assamese people along with youths and children assembled in Edworthy Park in Calgary on August 8th, 2020 at 6.00 pm. Flag hosting, singing of “O’ Mour Apunar Dex”, Cake cutting, Camp fire, Tea and a dinner were arranged that afternoon.
