Code of Ethics

  1. INTRODUCTION:
    As a fundamental principle of any nonprofit organization, AAA shall adhere to the highest ethical standards to fulfill the mission and goal of the society. AAA executives and members are expected to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to the core values of integrity, honesty, fairness, openness, responsibility and respect to all members at all time. Adherence to the by-law is the minimum standard of expected behavior. Nonprofit organizations must do more, than simply obey the by-law. AAA executives and members are expected adhere to the highest standards of integrity, transparency, openness and responsiveness to all the fellow members and public concerns and must be integral to behavior. No member has the right to act or spread their opinion to the members and to the public which will effect on the AAA’s good will and reputation.
    This Code of Ethics of AAA is a document which provides necessary guidance to all members in adhering to Association’s Behavior Based Quality (BBQ).
  2. AAA’s MISSION
    The AAA mission is “to promote the social, cultural, educational, heritage of Assam, encourage multi cultural and cross-cultural activities, promote co-operation, goodwill and well being among its members and fostering the heritage amongst the upcoming youths within the province of Alberta”. All AAA programs shall support that mission and all members of the organization will understand and be loyal to that mission and purpose.
  3. NORMS OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR
    AAA executives and members are responsible for adding value to the organization and contributing to the ethical success of the organization accepting responsibility for individual decisions and actions.
    AAA executives and members will operate and conduct their decisions and actions based on the following:
    • HONESTY & INTIGRITY
      AAA executives and members shall act with honesty, integrity and openness in all their dealings as representatives of the organization. AAA promotes the environment that values respect, fairness and integrity.
    • IPROFESSIONALISM
      AAA executives and members must strive to meet the highest standards of competence and commitment to strengthen competencies of the organization on a continuous basis. Fostering the highest standards of professional dealings amongst the members, guests or any other associates of AAA to be the first and for most motto of the organization.
    • ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY
      AAA executives and members are ethically responsible for promoting and fostering fairness and justice for all members, guests and associates to maintain AAA’s ethical standard. All members are expectedto exhibit individual skill as a role model for maintaining the highest standard of ethical conduct.
    • CONFLICT OF INTEREST
      As a respected member of AAA, every member must maintain a high level of trust with fellow members. We must protect the interests of our members as well as our professional integrity and should not engage in activities that create actual, apparent, or potential conflicts of interest. 
    • CONCERN AND COMPLAINT SUBMISSION
      Any concern or complaint against any member of the association to be submitted to AAA Executive in a formal written way in the prescribed “GRIEVANCE LETTER” available in the web site. In any case, personal concern, not related to AAA and any verbal complaint will not be considered. 
    • DISPUTES
      Any dispute among the members arising out of any unwanted situation, AAA will encourage to resolve. The dispute mutually amongst both the parties otherwise AAA bylaws to be implemented. As per AAA By-Law: Any dispute in the conduct of the affairs of the association or due to action or inaction of the Executive Committee or of a member shall be referred to the arbitration committee as per Article 5.0. The arbitration committee will review the issues with the disputants and advise or negotiate or arbitrate in the dispute in writing. If the conclusion of the arbitration committee is not acceptable, the issue shall be referred to the General body of the association. A majority vote (i.e., greater than 50%) will be considered binding for the issue. The vote can be carried out at a General Body meeting or at a special general body meeting as per clause 7.2. 
    • UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR
      AAA will not tolerate unacceptable behaviours of AAA executives, members, participants, speakers, or sponsors in any form. Unacceptable behaviors include: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning speech or actions by any participant in all of our AAA related events, and in one-on-one communications carried out in the context of AAA business.
      Harassment includes: harmful or prejudicial verbal or written comments related to gender, orientation, race, religion, disability; inappropriate use of resources, deliberate intimidation, following; harassing or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and other unwelcome behavior.
      The most common form of Code of Conduct incident is often micro-aggressions, which are statements that reinforce the status quo, and may make others feel uncomfortable, alone, or unsupported. Even a small micro- aggression is still a Code of Conduct violation and we welcome reports of them and bringing it to the attention of AAA Executive Committee using the Grievance Letter.
      Unacceptable behavior from any AAA member, including sponsors, and those with decision-making authority, will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a community member engages in unacceptable behavior, the AAA Executive Committee may take any action they deem appropriate.
    • CONFIDENTIALITY
      It is the policy AAA that executives and members will not disclose confidential information belonging to, or obtained through their affiliation with AAA to any person, including their relatives, friends, and business and professional associates, unless authorized by AAA. This policy is not intended to prevent disclosure where disclosure is required by law. Executives, members and associates are cautioned to demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and care to avoid unauthorized or inadvertent disclosures of confidential information, for example, refrain from using e-mail database of AAA.
      All members of AAA are expected to read, understand, and behave in a manner that is consistent with the provision of the AAA code of ethics.
